Tuesday's terrifying incident at an elementary school near Atlanta — in which a gunman with an assault rifle and other weapons entered the building — ended with no one being hurt after a school clerk apparently spent about an hour talking to the young man. She says she persuaded him to put down his gun and surrender.
"Two Syrian pro-opposition groups are claiming that dozens of people were killed Wednesday in a poisonous gas attack near Damascus," NPR's Jean Cochran reported earlier this morning on our Newscast. The groups are blaming the attack on government forces, she said.
House Speaker T.W. Shannon is hosting public meetings this week with Republican members of the House and their constituents.
The Lawton Republican plans to meet at coffee shops Tuesday in Oklahoma City and Norman to discuss some of the highlights of the last legislative session and the upcoming special session that is set to begin on Sept. 3 for changes to the state's civil justice system.
Shannon will be at the Kamp's 1910 Cafe at 10 a.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City, followed by a 2 p.m. stop at La Baguette in west Norman.

With the school year either already begun, or about to begin, for much of Oklahoma, I thought I'd write a post about the Oklahoma School Year and severe weather. For these results, I've identified the school year as every day between the months of January through (and including) May as well as August through (and including) December.
Oklahoma's multicounty grand jury is reconvening to investigate matters of local as well as statewide interest.
The grand jury will reconvene on Tuesday and meet thru Thursday at the OklahomaAttorney General's Office in Oklahoma City.
The multicounty grand jury was requested by Attorney General Scott Pruitt and approved by the Oklahoma Supreme Court in September. It is led by Assistant Attorney General Megan Tilly, chief of the Multicounty Grand Jury Unit.
