| Tick Prevention | Saturday July 25 |
The Oklahoma Poison Control Center says the summer months are prime season for ticks. Ticks transmit diseases such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Frever, Ehrlichiosis and Tularemia. Ticks prefer moist, humid conditions and are most often found in wooded or grassy areas. If you plan to be in a tick-infested area, wear light-colored clothing so ticks will be easily seen. Long-sleeved shirts, caps, head scarves, long pants, and socks will help keep ticks from coming into contact with skin. Also spray clothing or skin with a repellant that contains a concentration of 20% DEET. A lower concentration will not protect against ticks.
