Food DriveFriday May 16   
The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma hosts the 6th Annual Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive through May 23rd. The month-long food and fund drive brings together metro businesses and individuals in an effort to collect canned food to benefit hungry Oklahomans.

Individuals wishing to participate in the Food Drive can do so by dropping off food items at any metro Wal-Mart or McDonald's during the month of May. Those interested in helping by making a monetary donation, can visit our website at www.regionalfoodbank.org and participate in the Virtual Food Drive.

Canterbury Choral Society: An American PortraitSaturday May 17   
The Canterbury Choral Society presents the concert An American Portrait on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00pm in the Civic Center Music Hall.

The world class 155 voice chorus presents four concerts during their season from October to May. This is the final concert of the 2007 - 2008 season. Concerts represent a variety of choral masterworks, as well as contemporary, folk, and seasonal world music.

Brett Weston: Out of the ShadowSaturday May 17   
The Oklahoma City Museum of Art will be the first venue for "Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow," March 20 through May 18, 2008. The exhibition is the first major retrospective of Brett Weston’s work in over 30 years. Although Brett Weston was a key player in the photography world during his lifetime, he was often overshadowed by his father, Edward. Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow will bring to light the younger Weston’s unique creative spirit by examining his long career.

The exhibition presents 136 photographs taken in Mexico and California in the 1920s and 1930s, East Coast images from the 1940s, and landscape and nature photographs taken after he returned to the West Coast in 1948. Many of these images push toward pure abstraction, putting Weston at the forefront of non-objective, fine-art photography.

The 22nd Annual Big Catch Fishing TournamentSaturday May 17   
The 22nd Annual Big Catch Fishing Tournament to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is Saturday May 17 at Calypso Cove Marina at Lake Thunderbird. The tournament gives away $5,000 in CASH plus additional prizes. There will be six different fish categories, which will be judged by weight. This family friendly event has had as many as 1,000 participants in past years and we welcome everyone to come join in the fun this year. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase and you will be able to enjoy your meal while listening to some great music provided by Star Productions and KKNG 93.3.

Participants can pick up registration forms at any Oklahoma 7-Eleven Store or calll the MDA office at (405) 722-8001 to register. Registrations received after Wednesday, May 14th do not include a Big Catch Fishing Tournament T-shirt and fees are $35 for adults and $20 for children (under 12 accompanied by a paid adult).
Roots and Ties at the CapitolSaturday May 17   
The Oklahoma Arts Council presents Roots and Ties, Works from the Hamilton Press on display in the Governor’s Gallery at the State Capitol through May 17th, 2008. The Governor’s Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the State Capitol and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:00.

The works in the exhibit represent a generation of artists who grew up in Oklahoma and headed west on Route 66 following the Great Depression and World War II. Five of the artists whose work is included in the exhibition, Robert Bonaparte, Joe Goode, Jerry McMillan, Ed Ruscha, and Mason Williams, currently reside on the West coast. In addition, the work of the late Lee Mullican, a Chickasha native who lived in Los Angeles for much of his life will also be part of the exhibition.
UCO hosts Connecting to American Indian Leaders ConferenceSaturday May 17   
The Oklahoma Center for Arts Education (OCAE) at the University of Central Oklahoma will present its fourth annual "Connecting to American Indian Learners Conference" from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 17, at the Nigh University Center.

The conference focuses on teaching different ways to integrate the history of American Indian art and language into the K-12 core curriculum.

Registration is $75 per person, which includes all meals and make and take materials.

This year's exhibition features an artisitc tribute to Acee Blue Eagle (1907 - 1959), an internationally acclaimed Creek/Pawnee artist who studied under Oscar Jacobson at the Jacobson House and the University of Oklahoma School of Art.

Julia Kirt, director of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, curated the exhibition.

UCO Summer Drama Day CampMonday May 19   
The University of Central Oklahoma’s Department of Theatre, Dance & Media Arts is now accepting registration for its annual Drama Day Camp June 9 through 13 and June 16 through 20.

The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with classes offered in acting, stage combat, theatre crafts, voice and movement. During the final day of each weeklong camp, the participants will put on a production for friends and family at 5:30 p.m.

The camp is open to children ages 7 through 12. Registration is $100 per student per week. Space is on a first come, first served basis. An afternoon snack will be provided but participants must bring a sack lunch.

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center hosts a forum on eyesight at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, in the Robert M. Bird Library Auditorium, on the OU Health Sciences Center campus. Library parking is located on N.E. 10th Street. Refreshments will be served at 5:45 p.m.

Members of the community will have the opportunity to speak with experts in the fields of diseases that afflict the eye and find out where we are today in vision research and clinical applications and what we, as individuals, can do to help protect ourselves from eye disease. The seminar is part of the Neuro Night series sponsored by the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience, a consortium of neuroscientists from across the state that serves as a research center and information resource.

Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City's only resident chamber music ensemble, ends its season with a concert featuring Brightmusic's wind musicians, with piano and string accompaniment at 7:30pm on Tuesday, May 20th at Saint Paul's Episcopal Cathedral.

To Arms: Civil War in the Indian TerritorySaturday May 24

UCO Summer Drama Day CampMonday May 26   
The University of Central Oklahoma’s Department of Theatre, Dance & Media Arts is now accepting registration for its annual Drama Day Camp June 9 through 13 and June 16 through 20.

The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with classes offered in acting, stage combat, theatre crafts, voice and movement. During the final day of each weeklong camp, the participants will put on a production for friends and family at 5:30 p.m.

The camp is open to children ages 7 through 12. Registration is $100 per student per week. Space is on a first come, first served basis. An afternoon snack will be provided but participants must bring a sack lunch.

Mind/Body Essentials:BiofeedbackTuesday May 27   
Integris health is giving a presentation on how to use biofeedback techniques. Biofeedback is a treatment technique in which people are trained to improve their health by learning how to influence brain activity, blood pressure, heart rate, and stress in general.

The presentation will be given by health and wellness coach, Sherryl McGuire, P.h.D. The event will be held from 6:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. at the Integris Pacer Fitness Center.
Hands on Summer 2008Tuesday May 27   
The City Arts Center is putting on their seasonal summer camp, Le Cirque D' Art. This summer's camp will focus around the circus where children, ages 5 and up, will have the oppurtunity to juggle, apply makeup, and become part of the circus. The classes begin May 27 with the first week and run till August 15. Town Hall Meeting: Genetics in SocietyTuesday May 27   
The Section of Genetics at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center will be holding a series of Town Hall Meetings to discuss the impact of genetics on society. Nationally recognized speakers will make brief presentations on advances in genetic testing, genetics and disease, expanded newborn screening and genetic counseling. Following these presentations, attendees will be invited to pose questions, make comments, and discuss these issues. The purpose of these meetings is to provide accurate information on genetics in society to the general public and to determine what questions and concerns people have on these issues. The Town Hall meetings are open to the public. Currently, two Town Hall meetings are scheduled. The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History presents two new exhibits opening May 31. The Paleozoic gallery, a new permanent exhibit in the Hall of Ancient Life, will feature more than 4 billion years of Earth's history. Also opening, and on view through August 24, will be "The Science of SuperCroc, Featuring NIgersaurus." This exhibition features one of the largest crocodiles ever to walk the earth. OKC Gospel FestivalSaturday May 31   
The Power to End Stoke (PTES) Gospel Fest is May 31st from 5pm to 9pm at Fairview Baptist Church. The Gospel Fest is part of the American Stroke Association's Power to End Stroke (PTES) campaign targeting African Americans because of their high risk for strokes. The Gospel Fest is a signature event that will focus on the overall health and wellness of the African American community with a particular emphasis on stroke and stroke prevention.

The PTES Gospel Fest will be hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones, producer of Bobby Jones gospel and video gospel for Black Entertainment Television (BET). The event will be attended by 250 local community leaders and will attract more than 5000 participants. Attendees will be entertained with inspiring gospel music from eight choirs from across the state that will be selected through an audition process. The music will be punctuated by stroke messaging through announcements by Dr. Bobby Jones, audio PSA's and video clippings.

The Gospel Fest will also be highlighted by a unique health exposition that will feature screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, sickle cell anemia, and body mass index reading. In addition, complimentary informational brochures will be available for each screening done. A panel of doctors, nurses, and dieticians will be available to provide counseling and referral to individuals, particularly those who screen at high-risk.

El Reno Route 66 TriathlonSaturday May 31   
El Reno Route 66 Triathlon is at 7:30am on Saturday, May 31 at Lake El Reno.

This third annual event is a draw for athletes throughout our regional states. TRI-OKC and the City of El Reno present the Route 66 Triathlons, on Saturday/Sunday, May 31st and June 1st. Both events are held on the same course, with the majority of the bike route on Historic Route 66, The Mother Road. Route 66 Triathlon on Sunday is the State Qualifier for the Best of the US Amateur Triathlete National Championship. A USAT membership for participants is required. One-day memberships will be available at packet pickup for $10 for those who are not annual members. All participants must have valid photo ID along with their paid memebership card. You, and only you, can pick up your packet and race number. USAT membership must be paid separtely from race entry.

The Central Oklahoma Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International is hosting the 2008 Walk to Cure Diabetes May 31. The Greater Grads Summer Internship Program was developed to strengthen the bond between intern, employer, and community.
