Fundraising Goals Exceeded at Fiscal Year End
KGOU staff are still going over our financial records for the just-completed fiscal year, but at this point we can report that FY09 was a good year for KGOU. Our tallies show that total income was up about two and a half percent, led by private giving, up about 20 percent over the previous year! |

Back to the Garden: Woodstock Remembered Radio Special and CD Giveaway!
The Woodstock Music and Art Fair in August of 1969 was billed as "three days of peace and music", but its impact reverberated throughout pop culture and history. Tune to KGOU for music and memories in Back to the Garden: Woodstock Remembered. We'll broadcast the two-hour special in two parts, on August 9 and 16, at 11 a.m.
The program includes interviews with Woodstock organizers, artists and audience members. Music performances from Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, The Who, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez and others take us back to that time and place.
To mark Woodstock's 40th anniversary, KGOU will give away a newly released 10-CD set from Legacy Recordings called The Woodstock Experience. This Limited Edition set features live performances of five artists who graced the Woodstock stage, plus the studio albums they released shortly thereafter: Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Johnny Winter and Santana. Enter here to win! Drawing will be held Wednesday, August 12.

August Series on ATC ~ How Green Is It?
It's a common refrain today: Do your part to fight climate change and protect the environment. Turn off the lights; drive clean cars; buy earth-friendly products. Throughout August, All Things Considered looks at some of the things Americans are doing, changing or buying to help the environment and asks the question: How green is it?.

NPR Ombudsman Debuts Video Discussions
Journalists sometimes have to walk a fine line between their personal and professional lives; that's the topic of this NPR Ombudsman column delivered in a new way, via video. Check out Ombudsman Alicia Shepard's viewpoint and that of other journalists at NPR and other news organizations.
A Method Actress, Trapped In A Jazz Singer
Rather than simply playing a song differently, Diana Krall tries to feel it differently, actually taking on a character as she plays. Krall joined Steve Inskeep for Morning Edition on July 23 to discuss her new album, her method of interpreting old standards, and the trials of touring with twin two-year-olds. Hear more of the interview and her improvisations at the piano, at NPR.org.
