Change is Coming to KGOU Program Schedule
The impending loss of two programs has given KGOU the opportunity to make some changes to our program schedule, without incurring any additional programming costs.

Replacing Day to Day
Fans of Day to Day know the ax is falling – the final program will be broadcast on Friday, March 20. NPR was forced to cancel the show because of declining national underwriting. We found this video co-produced by a former D2D staffer, Shereen Meraji, about the cancellation.

Hosted by veteran broadcaster and documentary filmmaker Robin Young, Here & Now is a newsmagazine with features on technology, personal finance, film, theater and music.

Replacing Calling All Pets
Calling All Pets stopped producing new shows in mid-2008, and has been airing reruns since then. Soon the producers will stop making those archived shows available as well. We've had success with repeating a weekend program mid-week (Car Talk), and so starting on March 25, KGOU will repeat the previous Saturday's This American Life on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

Adding Programs on Friday Evenings and Weekends
We're taking this opportunity to enhance jazz programming and the KGOU weekend schedule overall by adding new programs and moving others. These programs will make their KGOU debuts the weekend beginning Friday, March 27: Also, War News Radio, Left, Right & Center, and Jazz at Lincoln Center are moving to new days and/or times.

Visit our programming page for more information about our new programs, and see the new program schedule here.

Early Pledges Shorten Spring Membership Drive
KGOU's spring membership drive is coming up at the end of this month, to raise funds for the second half of the fiscal year. Our goal is to raise $160,000 (You can read General Manager Karen Holp's discussion of how the goals are set on the Manager's Desk page.)

A typical public radio membership drive lasts about seven days, but we're always looking to minimize the interruption to regular programming while still raising the necessary funds. So, we're asking for help from our listeners to shorten the spring drive.

We'll need to raise an average of $23,000 per day to make our goal, so for every $23,000 in pledges that come in beforehand, we'll "stamp out" a day of on-air fundraising. We estimate early renewals and new pledges will easily stamp out three days, but we'd like to make the drive even shorter! You can help by mailing in your renewal pledge or using our secure online pledge form. Thanks!

Phone Volunteers Needed!
Last Minute RushIf you're looking for a way to give your valuable time to a worthy cause, consider volunteering to answer phones and take pledges during our upcoming membership drive. It's an enjoyable time at KGOU, when you'll get to talk with other public radio listeners while also supporting KGOU! You can view the shift schedule and sign up online, or call Membership Director Laura Knoll at 325-0022.

Highlights from the Networks:

Wall Street Blame Game: Tag, You're It
Who is the scapegoat for the current economic mess? To paraphrase Dick Meyer, NPR's opinion editor, the idea of blaming one person for the downfall of the economy is just nuts. Read his Against the Grain column at NPR.org. Nuts or not, NPR's Planet Money team is asking listeners to identify who they believe the culprits are – name names on the Planet Money blog.

Finding Freedom in Forgiveness
photo by Scott WitterJennifer Thompson-Cannino was certain that Ronald Cotton was the man who raped her in 1984. But she was wrong. After Cotton spent 11 years in jail, DNA evidence proved his innocence. Now, the two have a friendship based on their belief in forgiveness. Hear their This I Believe essay, one of the most recommended stories on NPR.org.

Lemony Snicket's Musical Murder Mystery
cover illustrationThere's a mystery to be solved in the orchestra: The composer is dead, and the suspect is still at large. Author Lemony Snicket, a.k.a. Daniel Handler, best known for the popular Series of Unfortunate Events children's books, tells the tale in both a picture book, illustrated by Carson Ellis, and an accompanying audiobook CD, with music scored by Nathaniel Stookey and performed by the San Francisco Symphony.
