StoryCorps' New Holiday Tradition: National Day of Listening
The independent nonprofit project StoryCorps has declared Friday, November 28 a National Day of Listening, in an initiative to encourage, instruct, and inspire everyday people to start a new holiday tradition – sit down with a loved one on the day after Thanksgiving and record a meaningful conversation to preserve for years to come.
StoryCorps National Day of ListeningTo help people participate in the National Day of Listening, StoryCorps has a free Do-It-Yourself Instruction guide to help with facilitating and archiving interviews at home. Download the guide, watch a how-to video, and find out more about the project at www.nationaldayoflistening.org.

NPR will be participating, airing interviews NPR staff members have conducted with the important people in their lives. Scott Simon, Liane Hansen, Steve Inskeep, Renee Montagne and Frank Deford will be presenting interviews during the week of November 22 through 27. And StoryCorps founder David Isay is scheduled to talk about the initiative during Talk of the Nation on Thanksgiving Day.

Alex Chadwick Leaves D2D Anchor Desk
In his 31 years with NPR News, Alex Chadwick has worn many hats – host, reporter, producer, writer and correspondent. After five years shepherding Day to Day, Alex is taking off his 'host' hat, and donning one as NPR's newest Senior Correspondent on the national desk.

NPR photoAlex leaves D2D in great shape – more than 2 million listeners on 180 stations across the country. But, as he said in announcing the change, he's looking forward to working outside the studio: "I’m going to miss the many valued colleagues here, especially my co-host, Madeleine Brand. And of course I’ll miss the daily contact with listeners. But I’ll be able to write more carefully, to observe a little more thoroughly, to think a little longer before I speak. . . these are the great blessings of working as a reporter for NPR, and I’m grateful to the company for returning me to that role."

A permanent replacement has not yet been named. Day to Day airs at noon weekdays on KGOU.
