KGOU Special Coverage Focuses on State, National Races
PRX photoKGOU is planning extensive coverage of election-related topics leading up to the general election November 4. Our news team is working with the Public Radio Exchange and ten public radio stations across the country to report on a variety of issues affecting voters in the heartland, including ethanol production, immigration, and healthcare. The reports will air during Morning Edition and All Things Considered in the remaining weeks before the election.

If you didn't get a chance to hear the debate earlier this week between the two candidates for Oklahoma's US Senate seat, KGOU will re-broadcast it this Sunday, October 12 at 12:15 p.m. Democrat Andrew Rice is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Jim Inhofe; the debate was sponsored by Tulsa's KJRH-TV.

KGOU's public affairs program Oklahoma Voices will also focus on statewide and Congressional races. First, we'll dedicate two hours Monday, October 13, to the statewide Corporation Commission race between incumbent Democrat Jim Roth and Republican challenger Dana Murphy. KGOU Local NewsStarting at 10 a.m. KGOU’s Kurt Gwartney interviews both candidates, followed at 11 a.m. by a recent debate recorded on the University of Oklahoma campus.

The following Monday, October 20, KGOU News Director Scott Gurian interviews incumbent Republican Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole and his opponent in the race, Democrat Blake Cummings. On Monday, October 27, Oklahoma Voices features a panel discussion on "The Impact of Instant Information on Elections." Oklahoma Voices airs every Monday at 11 a.m. on KGOU, and election news, both national and local, is featured on our election page.
