Listeners came through for KGOU before and during the two-day fall membership drive, with more than 1500 pledges of support for just over $160,000! Thank you!
    Many, many thanks to:
  • 168 members contributing to the New Member Challenge Fund
  • Matching funds from Top of the World Caps, Majors Energy, Joe's Place Wine and Spirits, and Dennis and Penney Moore
  • 19 terrific volunteers who answered the phones
  • Café Plaid and Jason's Deli for feeding the volunteers
  • 359 new members
  • 1125 renewing or rejoining members
  • Our 'candidates', Rick Allen Lippert and Stuart Tidball, and a cast of characters
The staff and our radio thespians had fun infusing a campaign theme into our fall membership drive, and we hope listeners enjoyed it, too.

Special Programs Planned for Election Eve and Beyond
KGOU and NPR News are planning a week's worth of special coverage for the historic 2008 general election, starting next Monday, November 3. The night before voters cast their ballots for president, they can call in and talk about it with a seasoned group of journalists, analysts, and strategists from both major parties. Neal Conan hosts the special call-in program, broadcast from 9 to 11 p.m. (CT)

Election '08Election night coverage begins as soon as many of the polls close on the east coast, 6 p.m. (CT), and continues until 2 a.m. or longer, depending on how rapidly the results come in. KGOU will add coverage throughout the evening with results from state and local races.

Next Tuesday through Thursday, Talk of the Nation will focus on election topics: on Election Day, TOTN looks at the process of voting and individual voters; on Wednesday, the focus shifts to why the results were what they were; and on Thursday, Talk of the Nation becomes Talk of the World, examining what the US election means in a global context.

And if you've ever wondered what happens in Studio 4A on election night, NPR has produced a video with political junkie Ken Rudin as your election coverage tour guide – watch it here.

There are many other features, too, including individual profiles for listeners, much like other social networking sites. Read the introduction by NPR Community Editorial Director Dick Meyer, set up your own profile, and become a Fan of KGOU!

NPR Reports Focus Attention on Multitasking
brain scanAre we as good at multitasking as we think we are? Scientists say maybe not, and our ability to do more than one thing at a time may diminish with age. NPR's Jon Hamilton has another report on multitasking, complete with an interactive quiz, to test your abilities. His initial report from October 2 ranked high on the Most E-mailed Stories list, along with reports this month on multitasking teens and multitasking while driving.

B.B. King Offers 'One Kind Favor'
photo by Kevin WestenbergAt age 82, B.B. King and his guitar Lucille don't have anything to prove, except maybe that age has nothing to do with making a great blues album. Music critic Milo Miles reviewed King's latest offering, 'One Kind Favor' for Fresh Air October 21. Listen at NPR Music.
