KGOU Connects to Capitol Hill
Capitol News ConnectionCrowded and contentious town hall meetings and landmark legislation pending in Congress underscore the importance of staying informed about happenings in Washington. KGOU and Capitol News Connection provide you with additional perspectives about the legislation Congress is considering and how our elected officials are voting on national issues.

Matt LasloEach Friday during All Things Considered, KGOU and CNC bring you "This Week in Congress," a four-minute briefing on the activities of the U.S. House and Senate. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, News Director Kurt Gwartney focuses on Oklahoma's Congressional delegation with analysis from CNC's Matt Laslo.

If you have questions about Congressional matters, or topics that you would like to hear more about, please send them to news@kgou.org. Matt also writes a blog for the CNC's Ask Your Lawmaker website and has a growing following on Twitter.

Fall Membership Drive Update
More News
Less Noise
Listeners often tell us how much they value KGOU's programming. Some of the phrases they use include: "factual news coverage", "civil discussion", and "the whole story".
Listeners can trust what they hear on KGOU to be accurate, thorough and respectful. KGOU trusts that listeners will support the station – even without a full week-long on-air funding marathon.

KGOU's fall membership drive is coming up next month – only two days long – so that you can get more of the news that is important to you. Our goal for this fall drive is $165,000, and to date, listeners have donated or pledged just over $47,000.

If you haven't yet pledged your support for KGOU, use our secure online pledge form to make your tax-deductible donation.

Phone Volunteers Needed!
phone volunteersWe're anticipating a fun, but busy, time as new and renewing members call in during KGOU's two-day membership drive, October 8 and 9, and we'll need a full slate of volunteers to help answer the phones. Sign up for a shift from our volunteer page, or call Membership Director Laura Knoll at 325-0022 if you can help anytime during those days.

Rediscovering Natural Gas By Hitting Rock Bottom
photo by Tom Gjelten/NPRIn recent years, natural gas producers in the United States have struggled to be taken more seriously in the energy world. But they now have numbers on their side with advances in drilling techniques to get natural gas out of shale rock. This energy-related story from Morning Edition on September 22 ranks high on the Most Commented list at NPR.org.

The opportunities and challenges facing American natural gas producers was also the focus of The Diane Rehm Show on Wednesday, September 23. The program is archived online as well – listen here.

filmUnseen Hemingway Photographs Discovered
In 1952, Life magazine sent Alfred Eisenstaedt to Cuba to photograph Ernest Hemingway. The photographs were to accompany Hemingway's novella The Old Man and the Sea, that was to be published in the magazine. But most of the photos were not published – until now. The Picture Show blog at NPR.org has a few of them, and a link to more.
