Alexander is a senior communication major at the University of Oklahoma who joined the KGOU crew in the Fall of 2013. He writes the station's OneSix8 blog and produces the Community Events Calendar.  Born and raised in Orange County, California, he moved to Oklahoma City in August of 2005 where he graduated with Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School's class of 2010.

Entertaining The Hours Of Your Week With The Medieval Fair, Eve Of Nations

Behold maidens and dragon slayers, Norman’s 38th Annual Medieval Fair takes place Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6.

Seven stages feature non-stop music and theater performances. Food vendors provide a feast of smoked turkey legs or home made root beer as fairgoers watch jousts and jugglers until the day grows olde. In addition to the royal entertainment, more than 200 arts and crafts booths sell handmade medieval collectibles like costumes, stained glass and hand-made jewelry.

What began as a small, one-day project by the University of Oklahoma’s English Department now takes place at one of Norman’s biggest public venues, Reaves Park on Jenkins Avenue.

Oklahoma City native Graham Colton performs before a hometown crowd at Bricktown Music Hall March 29 at 8 p.m.

The concert marks the debut of original material from his recently recorded album Lonely Ones, released this past January. Colton’s Lonely Ones was inspired by collaborations with Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd, members of the famed Oklahoma City group The Flaming Lips.

Oklahoma City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place Saturday, March 15th.  The procession begins at the intersection of Reno and Hudson Avenues downtown at 11 a.m. before making its way east toward the Bricktown Ballpark.

Thousands of Oklahomans are expected to attend the parade that features more than 80 combined entries that include floats, animals and antique cars.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) gives Oklahomans the opportunity to save lives with blood donations at the Spring 2014 Bedlam Blood Drive. The campaign began Monday but runs Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Army ROTC building at the University of Oklahoma.

The University of Central Oklahoma’s Jazz Lab hosts the legendary Count Basie Orchestra in celebration of the venue’s 12th Anniversary. 

The name William “Count” Basie is synonymous with big-band jazz. UCO’s Jazz Studies Division head Brian Gorrell goes so far as to say, “The Count Basie Orchestra is without a doubt the most famous big band in all of American music history.”

The Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, aka OkMOM, is in Enid February 7 and 8 at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center to provide Oklahomans complimentary dental care. OkMOM Enid marks the fifth-annual OkMOM event.

“We see a fair number of people down here who have abscessed teeth. All we can do is give them antibiotics,” said Enid Community Clinic Coordinator Janet Cordell according to Mission of Mercy’s website.
