2016 Oklahoma Voter Guide Answers Voters' Frequently Asked Questions

2016 Oklahoma Voter Guide

"When is the deadline to register to vote in the general election?"

"What races will be on my ballot?"

"Can I vote early, or by mail?"

These are the kinds of questions answered by the 2016 Oklahoma Voter Guide, published by a partnership of news media, including KGOU, and nonprofit organizations. The guide is a non-partisan resource to help Oklahoma voters know who and what will be on the ballot Nov. 8. The League of Women Voters of Oklahoma and the Kirkpatrick Foundation spearheaded the effort.

Voter turnout is typically higher in presidential election years, and in years when more incumbents have opponents; both apply this year.

There are also seven state questions on the ballot, addressing a range of issues: death-penalty execution methods, agriculture, education funding, law enforcement (two questions), public spending for religious purposes, and the overhaul of state alcoholic beverage laws.

The guide lists state representative and senate races by district, and state appellate judges on the ballot to be retained in office or voted out.

Partners in publishing the guide hope it will serve as a stepping-off point for voters to educate themselves on the issues and the candidates on the ballot. KGOU and the other news organizations—KOSU, OETA, Oklahoma Watch, The Oklahoman and Tyler Media—have reported on the upcoming election in depth.
