Some attorneys who specialize in obtaining arrest videos from police say they're concerned a bill designed to make Highway Patrol dash-cam videos open to the public could actually have the opposite effect.
Vinita attorney Josh Lee successfully sued the city of Claremore for the release of police arrest videos. He and other attorneys in the field say they're concerned about an exemption in the bill that applies to officer misconduct. Until such time as an investigation into the misconduct is complete, portions of those videos could be kept secret.
Lee says he's concerned a law enforcement agency could stall its investigation to prevent the video from being released.
The author of the bill, state Sen. David Holt (R-Oklahoma City), says he doesn't think the exemption will be a problem.
