Bingman Considers Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Run

Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman
Oklahoma Senate

Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman says he's considering whether to leave his Senate seat to run for a vacancy on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

Bingman said in a statement Wednesday that he was honored to be mentioned as a potential candidate and plans to discuss with his family the possibility of entering the race.

Republican Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas announced Tuesday she would not seek re-election to her post for a full six-year term, and plans to instead run for the U.S. House.

Bingman — a Republican — is up for re-election in 2014, and could only seek one of the two positions.

The three members of the Corporation Commission serve staggered six-year terms on the panel that regulates utilities, telecommunications and the oil and gas industry.
