Blues, Phantom Unmasked And Oktoberfest Entertain Labor Day Weekend

The Arcadia Blues Festival returns for its 32nd year Friday, August 29 at Arcadia Municipal Park.

The family-oriented festival features authentic national and regional blues talent, with entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Festival grounds open at 6 p.m. before artists take the stage each hour thereafter. The Unlikely Blues Band plays at 6 p.m. followed performances by Jahruba and Kerry Wayne's Rock Star Band at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively, capped off by Garrett 'Big G' Jacobson at 10:30 p.m.

The Arcadia Blues Festival  is one of Oklahoma's longest running music festivals. Arcadia Municipal Park is located on historic Route 66 just a few miles Northeast of Edmond.

Blues lovers east of the metro area can head to Rentiesville for the popular Dusk Til Dawn Blues Festival.

The event runs three days and nights, with indoor and outdoor stages, 35 bands, over 200 musicians, plus workshops, a Kid’s Village and BBQ.

The Dusk Til Dawn Blues Festival festival includes the Juke Joint (21 and older), an indoor venue with music from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday this Labor Day Weekend.

Tickets cost $15 per day at the gate (about $1.50 a band) and kids under 12 get in free along with volunteers.

Rentiesville is located on US 69 in eastern Oklahoma two miles north of I-40 or two exits south of Muskogee.

Mayor Dwight Cope keeps the blues rolling in downtown Medicine Park at the 8th annual Mayor's Blues Ball Friday, August 29 through Sunday, August 31.

The admission-free festival features more than 20 performances on multiple stages including shows by Dirty Red & The Soulshakers, Caleb McGee and the Roland Bowling Band.

Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday evening and at noon on Saturday and Sunday, with performances wrapping up at midnight each night.

Local theatre company CityRep teams up with the cast of the new Broadway tour of 'The Phantom of the Opera' for a special performance in the Freede Little Theatre at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City.

The groups present Phantom Unmasked, a benefit performance to raise money for Broadway Cares and Equity Fights AIDS, which help Oklahomans living with AIDS and fund AIDS research.

The benefit also helps support CityRep's service to Oklahoma City and includes unique backstage live auction items that allow attendees to get an insider's view of the longest-running show in Broadway history. Phantom Unmasked  comes in the midst of the Phantom of the Opera production at the Civic Center, which began Wednesday and continues through September 7.

This weekend also marks the start of Choctaw Oktoberfest.

The family-friendly festival features nine days of German beer, food and music. Also, the event features crafts, vendors and a children’s activity area along with special appearances by German dance groups and musicians.

Admission costs $5 for adults and kids under 12 get in free.

Choctaw Oktoberfest takes place at Choctaw Creek Park Friday, August 29 through Sunday, September 7.
