A new report shows the Cherokee Nation had a $1.3 billion economic impact on the state of Oklahoma during 2012.
The report says the Cherokee Nation government and business operations directly accounted for more than 8,000 jobs and an additional 1,160 contract employees.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker says the tribe broke all records in production output, dividends and number of employees. He says the tribe's business umbrella, Cherokee Nation Businesses, continues to diversify and broaden its portfolio.
Baker says a strong Cherokee Nation means a strong Oklahoma. He says the Cherokee Nation is doing more than its share to grow Oklahoma.
The report was conducted by the Steven C. Agee Economic Research and Policy Institute at Oklahoma City University.
