Choctaw Nation Reopens Busy Tourist Info Center
The Choctaw Nation is celebrating the reopening of one of the state's busiest tourist information centers on Friday.
The Choctaw Nation assumed operations of the facility in Colbert in July under a five-year contract with the state.
Choctaw Nation Chief Gregory Pyle says the tribe is excited to share the Choctaw heritage with visitors. He says it's an opportunity to educate thousands of people a day about Oklahoma and the Choctaw Nation. The center will feature artwork by Choctaw artists and members of other Native American tribes.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Friday. Several cultural activities are scheduled during the event, including Choctaw pottery and basket making demonstrations. Visitors will also be able to sample traditional Choctaw food.
