Fourth of July celebratory options can be overwhelming. With barbecues, fireworks, and The Star Spangled Banner on repeat, it’s hard to know where to start. This week’s OneSix8 highlights a few events to help narrow down options for your Independence Day holiday.
The Oklahoma City Philharmonic’s Red, White and Boom concert occurs tonight at 8:30 p.m. in the Entertainment Plaza of the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Joel Levine conducts the orchestra for the seventh annual performance that celebrates the nation’s birthday with popular and patriotic pieces. The evening rounds out with a fireworks show. Attendees should bring lawn chairs for seating, and Fido is asked to stay home.
For those in Claremore, you can get an early start on your July 4th merrimenttomorrow. The Kids’ Fishing Derby kicks off the town’s celebration with registration at 7:00 a.m. at Claremore Lake Park. Fishing occurs until 10:00 a.m., when the judging begins. The park reopens for evening festivities at 6:00 p.m. with music until 9:15. Fireworks begin at dusk.
Woodward’s Independence Day festivities begin tomorrow with a Firecracker 5K at 7:00 a.m. The day proceeds with sack races, live music, and a Mr. and Miss Firecracker Pageant at the city’s Crystal Beach Park. The day closes with a concert and fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.
The City of Edmond’s week-long LibertyFest culminates tomorrow. The 4th of July begins with a parade through downtown Edmond at 9:00 a.m. ParkFest at the University of Central Oklahoma starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes a DJ, an 18-foot slide, and mounds of watermelon for attendees. The evening concludes with one of the largest displays of fireworks in the Oklahoma City Metro at 10:00 p.m.
AAA Oklahoma offers complimentary towing for those who need help after July 4th revelry. Tipsy Tow is available to everyone (AAA members and non-members alike) in metropolitan Oklahoma City, metropolitan Tulsa, Muskogee, Enid, Lawton, Shawnee, Bartlesville, Tahlequah, and Ardmore from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, until 4:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5.
Fireworks Watch:
Yukon’s fireworks begin at 10:00 p.m. at Yukon City Park tomorrow evening.
Moore’s fireworkslight up the sky tomorrow at dark (around 9:30 p.m.). Residents can visit Buck Thomas Park for the best view.
El Reno’s Freedom Fest fireworks are also set to begin at dark over Lake El Reno.
