Oklahoma City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place Saturday, March 15th. The procession begins at the intersection of Reno and Hudson Avenues downtown at 11 a.m. before making its way east toward the Bricktown Ballpark.
Thousands of Oklahomans are expected to attend the parade that features more than 80 combined entries that include floats, animals and antique cars.
Coinciding with the parade, the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party takes place in the heart of Bricktown at the intersection of Sheridan and Oklahoma Avenues. The complimentary public festival begins at 10 a.m. and includes green beer, green clothing and non-stop live music through midnight at the Chevy Events Center.
The group Freedom of Information Oklahoma hosts its event Sunshine Conference: Citizen Watchdogs March 15.
The conference explores laws regarding public access to government information. A special agent from the FBI, state legislators and members of the state Attorney General’s Office will be on-hand to give presentations.
The event takes place in the 46th Star Auditorium of the downtown library in Oklahoma City. Registration for walk-ins begins at 9:00 a.m. and the conference adjourns at 3:30 p.m.
Moving south, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman hosts its annual Spring Break Escape March 17 through March 21.
The weeklong program features auditorium shows, scavenger hunts, storytelling and a variety of different interactive exhibits about Oklahoma’s natural and cultural history.
The museum welcomes people of all ages but the events are primarily geared toward children. Participants will create unique birdfeeders, decorate the museum’s Art Wall in Native fashion and receive dinosaur face painting Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.
Admission to Spring Break Escape is complimentary with regular museum admission.
Backtracking to downtown Oklahoma City, the Myriad Botanical Gardens opened their Orchid Show at the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory February 28.
The exhibit runs through March 29 and features creative displays of hundreds of different orchids.
Walking tours of the display are available every Wednesday and Saturday. However, expert Curator Nate Tschaenn holds Orchid Care 101 on Tuesday, March 18 at the Conservatory.
Orchid Care 101 is a class about the ins and outs of caring for orchids at home.
