This is from the Manager’s Desk.
This week, I’m giving tribute to KGOU’s Business Manager of the last eight years, Kathy Hawkins, who is retiring at the end of the month.
You don’t know a lot about Kathy because we didn’t hire her for her broadcasting skills, so you never really heard her on the air. But we did hire her for her accounting skills and knowledge of university procedures. She has other talents that were not in her job description too, like swinging a mean hammer, making the best fried okra, knowing that the carpets should be steam-cleaned and more.
Kathy is really good at accounting – keeping track of all the donations and other income, reconciling all the various accounts, paying the bills, and preparing for and passing the annual external financial audit. And she kept us inside the lines of all the university policies and procedures. She cares about the station, the internal financial controls, and making sure that things work smoothly so the rest of the staff can excel at their jobs. She is the kind of person you always want at your back, and she has had mine for all these years.
She is going to have a wonderful retirement with her husband, Max, her grown children and grandchildren. We are grateful she chose to spend many years with us.
From all of us – our best wishes to Kathy Hawkins.
From the Manager’s Desk, I’m Karen Holp.
