At least 300 barrels of hydrochloric acid has spilled in Kingfisher County.
The Enid News & Eagle reports between 300 and 500 barrels of the acid spilled Monday. It happened at an oil well site that was being drilled by Blake Production Co.
Company owner Blake Vernon says workers found a tank had emptied out the acid used in fracking jobs on Monday. He says a chemical was spread on the tank to counteract the acid.
Beams were set up Tuesday to ensure rain didn't carry any acid into a nearby creek. Vernon says the drilling company notified the OklahomaCorporation Commission and the EPA.
Spokesman Matt Skinner for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission says the organization is overseeing cleanup operations.
