This is from the Manager’s Desk.

For KGOU’s30th anniversary year, I want to share a bit about KGOU’s financial picture this fiscal year and do a quick comparison to the past.

Going back to 1983’s budget is not quite fair, but the entire income that year was about $184,000. Five years ago, fiscal year 2008, KGOU’s income was about $1,400,000.  And for the current fiscal year 2013, the income will be just under two million dollars

Five years, ago, all support from the University of Oklahoma was 42% of our income, today is it 32%. Five year ago, the annual grant from the Corporation for public broadcasting was 9%, today it is 7%.

Private support includes membership, underwriting, capital donations, foundation grants and contracts. Five years ago private support was 42% of our income; today it is 60%.

The spring membership drive is coming soon. Your support of KGOU is ever more critical to KGOU’s future service.

Thanks! From the Manager’s Desk, I’m Karen Holp.

Karen earned her Master (1974) and Bachelor (1972) degrees from the University of Akron in Ohio, and has worked as Program Director at WMRA-FM, James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia and WUIS-FM, University of Illinois at Springfield.
