Man Impersonating Police Officer In Norman On The Phone

Cleveland County Sheriff Joe Lester says a man impersonating law officers is calling people and asking for money.

Lester says his office received reports Friday afternoon that a man identifying himself as either Sgt. Joseph Kelly or as an Officer Hall has made the phone calls. The sheriff says his department does not have any employee with either name.

The reports say the caller informed citizens that a warrant has been issued for that person's arrest because he or she failed to appear for jury duty. The caller said if the resident sends him money, they will not be arrested.

Lester says the call is a scam and anyone receiving such a call should hang up then call the sheriff's office to report the incident.
