The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Oklahoma says it collected more than $3.6 million from civil and criminal cases the office tried in 2013.

U.S. Attorney Danny C. Williams, Sr. in Tulsa says more than $2.3 million was collected through criminal cases and nearly $1.3 million was collected in civil cases.

The largest civil collections stemmed from cases where the government recovered federal money lost to fraud or other misconduct or collected fines from people or corporations for violating federal health, safety, civil rights or environmental laws.

The civil debts were collected on behalf of several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Internal Revenue Service, Small Business Administration and Department of Education.
