The Oklahoma Househas given final approval to a bill meant to make it more challenging for a minor to get an abortion without parental consent. The chamber approved Senate amendments to the bill 82-5 today with no questions or debate.
The proposal now heads to the desk of Gov. Mary Fallin. Oklahoma law currently says minors must wait 48 hours before getting an abortion without parental consent, a medical emergency or the permission of a judge.
The House bill would create more specific rules for parental consent forms and for the judge’s assessment of the minor’s ability to make her own abortion decisions.
The bill was one of three major proposals in the Oklahoma legislaturethat attempts to make the legal process for abortions more rigorous. The other two await final House approval.
