Nature-Based Preschool To Open In Oklahoma City

Natural Start Alliance

A new Oklahoma City preschool is staying away from plastic toys, serving only vegan and gluten-free food, and focusing on teaching children early about living a healthy lifestyle.

The idea behind The Green House appears to be catching on: Dozens of preschools are popping up nationwide that have a specific eco-friendly focus.

Christy Merrick is director of the Natural Start Alliance, which is part of the North American Association for Environmental Education. She said there are now about 80 nature-based preschools nationwide, up from 19 in 2009.

She said the schools range from taking simple approaches to basing their entire curriculum around nature and having students spend time every day in natural settings.
