“They are allowed to submit support material, whether a letter of support or a recommendation, to say why this person is deserving of the award,” said Director of Marketing and Communications Joel Garvin, who also encourages the submission of newspaper clippings and other promotional materials.
“The people that submit these nominations, they obviously feel the individual or organization has made an impact in the community; and it may not come out very well in terms of how they’ve written it but to me it’s meaningful that they feel that person or organization deserve some recognition,” Garvin said.
“I value, personally and as an organization, all the nominations we receive. It’s always interesting to hear the different stories. It’s not necessarily a lucrative business per say and a lot of people volunteer their time but it’s always fun.”
