Officer Cleared In Shooting Death Where K-9 Officer Killed

Cleveland County's top prosecutor has cleared an Oklahoma City police officer in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old suspect.

District Attorney Greg Mashburn sent a letter to the city attorney Friday clearing Sgt. Ryan Stark. Stark was under investigation in the Aug. 25 fatal shooting of 22-year-old Mark Salazar of Blue Mound, Texas.

Authorities say Salazar led officers on a high-speed chase through Moore and Norman that ended along Interstate-35 in Goldsby. After crashing his car, officers say Salazar tried to run away but was caught by the K-9 officer, Kye.

Police say Salazar repeatedly stabbed Kye before Stark arrived and opened fire, killing Salazar. Kye later died as a result of the injuries. Stark was Kye's handler in the department.

An autopsy report indicated Salazar was shot six times.
