Eric McCray told The Associated Press on Tuesday he's running to "bring a message to Washington."

The 33-year-old contractor for McCray and Sons Heat & Air says this is the first time he's run for office.

He joins two-term U.S. Rep. James Lankford of Edmond and 31-year-old paramedic Jason Weger of Norman in the GOP primary. House Speaker T.W. Shannon has told colleagues he will formally announce his candidacy on Wednesday, and U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Tulsa also is considering the race.

No Democratic candidates have announced yet.

Coburn announced two weeks ago he was foregoing his final two years in office.
