The Oklahoma Board of Corrections this week is interviewing candidates who want to be the next director of the state's prison system.
The seven-member board planned to interview potential candidates Wednesday during a special meeting at DOC headquarters. The board also is planning additional interviews Thursday before its regular meeting.
The board launched a national search after longtime director Justin Jones announced his resignation last summer after highly publicized clashes with the governor's office and legislative leaders over the growing use of private prisons to house state inmates.
Newly elected Board Chairman Kevin Gross has said he hopes to have a candidate selected and ready to be confirmed by the state Senate once the legislative session begins in February.
