The Oklahoma Chapter of the Ninety-Nines is set to host the 36th annual Okie Derby that will include 30 pilots from across Oklahoma taking part in an air rally.

The event will include the pilots flying up to 200 nautical miles over Oklahoma City in a contest to determine which pilot can most accurately predict fuel use and flight time projections. The winner receives 100 gallons of fuel.

The organization began in 1929 in New York when all 117 American female pilots were invited to gather for mutual support and the advancement of aviation. In 1931 famed female aviator Amelia Earhart was elected president and the group was named for its 99 charter members.
