Solid Reporting Needs Solid Support

Ashley Burton

September 1, 2013

This is from the Manager’s Desk.

Looking back, August was not the “slow news” month we sometimes anticipate. Instead, August, and now September are now filled with serious issues that need public media coverage.

Serious news requires thoughtful effort to add context to those news stories, to explore the history of the issue, and to discuss events from different points of view.

News never takes a day off, and public media news cannot wait to provide the context, the history and the discussion. In fact, public media needs more smart people to do the research and the interviews and the digging because there are so many stories yet to be explained.

Solid reporting needs solid support from radio listeners and digital readers. There is no other way except through your financial support. You can make the next news story possible by making a gift at KGOU dot org.

Thanks! From the Manager’s Desk, I’m Karen Holp.

Karen earned her Master (1974) and Bachelor (1972) degrees from the University of Akron in Ohio, and has worked as Program Director at WMRA-FM, James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia and WUIS-FM, University of Illinois at Springfield. She moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1979 to become General Manager of KRWG-FM.
