September 15, 2013

This is from the Manager’s Desk.

I’ve been talking about the sound reporting that public media presents every day.  That sound reporting is a major effort for both NPR and KGOU.

NPR maintains 16 foreign bureaus and has an additional 7 foreign reporters.  On the domestic side, NPR has 20 bureaus throughout the states – and the closest one to us is in Dallas.  It means that NPR can respond to breaking news and provide deeper stories to understand that news.

To further strengthen capacity, NPR presents station submitted stories.  As KGOU has grown and as StateImpact Oklahoma has developed, there are now more Oklahoma stories on NPR’s programs.

Listener support makes NPR’s 17 foreign and 20 domestic bureaus possible.  Listener support makes KGOU and StateImpact Oklahoma possible.  Make sure you share in the responsibility.

Thanks. From the Manager’s Desk, I’m Karen Holp.

Karen earned her Master (1974) and Bachelor (1972) degrees from the University of Akron in Ohio, and has worked as Program Director at WMRA-FM, James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia and WUIS-FM, University of Illinois at Springfield. She moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1979 to become General Manager of KRWG-FM.
