OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A plan to delay implementation of parts of a new system for grading public school teachers in Oklahoma easily cleared a House committee.
The House Common Education Committee voted 14-1 Tuesday for a one-year delay of full implementation of the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System, or TLE.
Under the bill by Bartlesville Republican Rep. Earl Sears, the part of the new grading system that requires classroom observation still will incorporated by the 2013-2014 school year. Additional components of the system that include things like test scores and other quantitative measurements would be delayed until the 2014-2015 school year.
The bill also requires that certain probationary teachers be evaluated once during the fall semester and again during the spring semester.
