A medical clinic in Tulsa is challenging a state law that is to go into effect later this year and further restrict the use of abortion inducing drugs in Oklahoma.
Attorneys for Reproductive Services of Tulsa filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court. The petition asks a judge to declare the pending law unconstitutional and void.
House Bill 2684 overwhelmingly passed the Republican-controlled Legislature earlier this year and was signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin. It is to take effect Nov. 1.
It would prohibit off-label uses of certain abortion inducing drugs by requiring doctors to administer the drugs only in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration protocol.
Plaintiffs argue the bill "violates women's fundamental rights to choose to terminate a pregnancy and to bodily integrity."
