Weather And Road Conditions For Sunday

November 16 2014
National Weather Service
Sunday Forecast Snow Conditions

Snow bands will develop behind a strong cold front and spread south today and this evening. Snow accumulations of 1-4 inches will be possible over much of the northern half of Oklahoma, with the heaviest amounts across parts of northern OK. A few places may receive more than 4 inches. The snow will create slick spots on roads, bridges, overpasses and sidewalks. REMEMBER: Exact locations of snowfall amounts can and will likely vary or change.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are treating slick highways in the Oklahoma Panhandle, Ellis, Harper and Major counties and crews in Woodward County standing by following snowfall earlier this morning.

Highways in Western Oklahoma, including I-40, are slick in spots, especially highways and overpasses. Crews are treating slick areas in Beckham, Caddo, Custer, Greer, Roger Mills, and Washita counties.

In North-Central Oklahoma, crews are applying salt and sand as needed to slick spots on highways and bridges in Garfield, Grant, Kay, Kingfisher, Logan, Noble and Payne counties. Crews are also checking highways and bridges in Osage County following light precipitation.

Crews in other areas of the state continue to monitor changing conditions and are prepared to treat highways and bridges with salt and sand as needed as freezing temperatures and precipitation are expected to continue.

Drivers should be aware of slick spots statewide, particularly on highway bridges, overpasses and highway exit/entrance ramps. Drivers who do travel should allow extra space between vehicles, so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.

If drivers must travel out of state, they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
