The Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa says it is moving forward with plans to honor American folk singer Pete Seeger next month.
Seeger was scheduled to be the first recipient of the inaugural Woody Guthrie Prize at an event Feb. 22 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in New York. Seeger died Monday at the age of 94.
Woody Guthrie's daughter, Nora Guthrie, says event guests won't just take a moment of silence to honor Seeger, but will honor him by singing.
The Woody Guthrie Prize will be given annually to the artist who best exemplifies the spirit and life's work of Woody Guthrie by speaking for the less fortunate through music, film, or other art forms and serving as a positive force for social change in America.
