Grand Lake Level To Drop In August

Federal regulators have turned down a request to keep the water level up at Grand Lake through the Labor Day holiday.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission told the Grand River Dam Authority that a three-foot drawdown scheduled for August will go on as planned.

The Tulsa World reports that landowners and businesses wanted the lake level to stay up through Labor Day weekend so more people can use the lake.

Even if you build it, water won't necessarily come. For people living in northwest Oklahoma a reservoir intended to bring water to the dry land is now a wildlife refuge.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built more lakes in Oklahoma than any other state. Some of those reservoirs struggle to fill, especially during drought, or end up holding more silt than water. But none have been a bigger failure than Lake Optima.
