Attorney General Gets His Man

After a four-year pursuit, the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office says it has secured $42,158 in restitution from a Texas man for Oklahoma victims of home repair fraud.

The office said Thursday that Randy Leroy Madewell of Danbury, Texas, was charged in 2010 with four felony counts of home repair fraud. Prosecutors say Madewell accepted more than $42,000 from seven homeowners for home repair and roofing work, but never started the projects. The projects were in Midwest City, Edmond and OklahomaCity.

Jerry Sanger To Head OK Public Utilities Unit

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has named Assistant Attorney General Jerry Sanger the new chief of the attorney general's public utilities unit.

As public utilities unit chief, Sanger will represent the interests of the state's utility customers in rate-related issues. The unit also participates in utility-related task forces, rulemaking proceedings and other legislative activities.

Supporters of the oil and gas industry ‘blasted’ environmental regulations and a campaign against fossil fuels at an Oct. 17 energy policy conference in downtown Tulsa, the Tulsa World’s Susan Hylton reports.

Conference speakers included Bob Tippee, editor of the Oil & Gas Journal, who assailed President Barack Obama’s “extremist” environmentalist supporters, and William Yeatman, an energy policy analyst for the Competitive Enterprise Institute, who went after federal regional haze rules.

Fight For Safe Rooms Leads To Oklahoma Supreme Court

Kathy Turner works with Take Shelter Oklahoma.  The group wants to build safe rooms to protect students from tornadoes like the one that destroyed Briarwood and Plaza Towers Elementary Schools in Moore.  Turner says her experience as a former school administrator showed her how important government funding can be.

Oklahoma AG Files Legal Brief In Abortion Law Case

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has filed a legal brief in the U.S. Supreme Court's review of an Oklahoma abortion law.  

The nation's highest court in June granted Pruitt's request to review a decision by the state Supreme Court declaring the law unconstitutional. Pruitt filed his brief Tuesday.

Oil billionaire Harold Hamm, the CEO and Chairman of Oklahoma energy giant Continental Resources has been tapped to lead state Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s re-election campaign.

The Associated Press reports:

Pruitt described Hamm as a “dedicated businessman, visionary, and icon here in Oklahoma.”
