Rose State College plans to create a Homeland Security Institute.

Rose State announced plans for the institute on Monday, saying it's the first educational program of its kind in Oklahoma. It will provide education and training in domestic and foreign terrorism prevention, emergency command procedures and management of natural and man-made disasters.

A counterterrorism institute in Oklahoma is shutting its doors after failing to find funding to continue operations.

The Oklahoman reports the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism has provided training to tens of thousands of police officers from around the country.

An Oklahoma City-based institute that offers free counterterrorism training to police officers may be shutting down.

The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism has trained more than 16,000 police officers since 2000. But in September the institute lost its federal funding, which it gets from the Department of Homeland Security, and is now in danger of closing.
