VIDEO: University of Oklahoma Storm Chaser Captures Texas Twister

The twister that ripped through the town of Granbury, Tex.  Wednesday night killed at least six people and injured dozens of others.

The National Weather Service classified the deadly Texas twister as a powerful EF4, with winds up to 200 miles-per-hour.

University of Oklahoma meteorology student Paige Burress captured video of the tornado for the weather blog Texas Storm Chasers. She told Here & Now host Robin Young it was a "sobering experience."

"A massive emergency response" is underway in North Texas, where tornadoes blew through Wednesday night, The Dallas Morning News says. A twister that hit Granbury, about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, left at least six people dead, more than 100 injured and even more homeless, The Associated Press adds.

Tornado Watch Issued, Greatest Severe Weather Threat 5-11 p.m.

The National Weather Service says storms will intensify this evening, with the highest tornado potential coming between 5 and 11 p.m. in Central and Southwest Oklahoma.

A Tornado Watch has been issued until 11:00 p.m. for Central and Eastern Oklahoma. The counties included roughly follow the Interstate 44 corridor.

There are still questions about the exact timing of the storms, but the Norman Forecast Office advises residents to not leave work or school this afternoon without checking the weather first.

"Tornadapreneur" Reed Timmer Takes TV Show to Internet

One of the nation’s most well-known storm chasers, Reed Timmer, is taking his work to the public after appearing for several years on the Discovery Channel.

To help pay for his new Internet-based series of programs, Timmer used social media and Kickstarter. The plan was a success, surpassing its initial $75,000 goal, now trying for a new “stretch goal” of $125,000 by Thursday.
