Oklahoma Democrats were still deciding Wednesday whether to call on the governor to set a special election for a congressional race after their candidate died two days before Election Day.
Party Chairman Wallace Collins says he is waiting to hear from the attorney general's office and state election board before deciding on the party's next steps.
State law indicates that in the event of a candidate's death before an election, the governor is to set a special election.
Republican U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin beat the deceased candidate, Earl Everett, on Tuesday, winning 70 percent of the vote. A spokesman for Mullin's campaign declined to comment Wednesday.
Spokesmen for several state agencies referred the matter to the Attorney General Scott Pruitt, whose spokesman said the office is reviewing the matter.
