Entertaining the Hours of Your Week: Dance Your Night Away

Esparta

After a long week it's time to let loose. Whether it's Grooving at the GrooveFest or watching Ballerinas perform, this week's OneSix8 has three events that give everyone a chance to bust a move.

Andrews Park in Norman hosts the 51st rendition of GrooveFest this weekend. Music will be playing from Noon until 10 that evening and attendees are welcome to dance along with the music, and enjoy all of the performances of the night.

There will be poets, art and local bands that join together that day to celebrate and raise awareness for human rights around the world.  GrooveFest invites guests to come and learn about human rights as well as join the party and have some fun.

If you're not looking to show off your moves  The University Theater has a group that will. The Oklahoma Festival Ballet takes place this weekend at the Rupel J. Jones Theater from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 3 to five p.m. on Sunday.

The Oklahoma Festival Ballet promises a rich variety of dances from dancing being inspired by sweeping winds to more abstract ballets.  These performances are choreographed by a variety of people so there is something for everyone.

If you're looking to learn a new kind of dance visit the Metropolitan Library in Midwest city in their celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month with Ballet Flamenco Espanol Folklorico Dance Company.

These dancers are dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the Spanish dance and show off their heritage from 4 p.m to 6  p.m. this Sunday. Besides the dancing there will be bright colored costumes, wooden shoes and swords.

Other musical events this weekend include:

Moonlight Sonata with Wayne McEvilly: Master pianist Wayne McEvilly offers a free performance of and commentary on Beehthoven's most famous piece for solo piano. He performs September 28th from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Almonte Library in Oklahoma city.
