Former State Senator To Run For Chairmanship Of State Republican Party

Facebook

A former Oklahoma state senator and one-time tea party favorite who ran unsuccessfully for governor and U.S. Senate is now setting his sights on the chairmanship of the state Republican Party.

Randy Brogdon of Owasso confirmed Wednesday he would seek the state party's top post at the GOP's state convention in April. Current Republican Party Chairman Dave Weston, who won the seat in 2013, says he plans to seek another term.

The 61-year-old Brogdon is a former Republican state senator who rode a tea party wave to nearly 40 percent of the vote in a GOP primary against Mary Fallin in 2010. He planned to run for governor against Fallin again this year, but instead ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate when Tom Coburn announced he was stepping down.
