Happy Retirement, Susan Shannon

January 4, 2015

This is from the Manager’s Desk.

KGOU has a staff member who is kicking off the new year of 2015 with a major change in her life. Susan Shannon is retiring after almost 19 years with KGOU.

Susan joined KGOU back in 1996 – first as a student employee in February, and then as a full-time staff member in July. She started out on the administrative side of our operation as Office Manager. But as the years went on, she wanted to learn the broadcasting side. Susan began with interviews in the artistic world and Native American communities, and that grew into her weekly feature, Indian Times.

Several years ago, Susan moved completely to the programming department, continuing Indian Times and also hosting the local news and information in All Things Considered.

Over the years, Susan was recognized with several awards:

2012: Society of Professional Journalists - Oklahoma Pro Chapter Radio Categories, Diversity Coverage -- First Place, Susan Shannon, "Indian Times: A Native look back at 2011."

2010: Society of Professional Journalists - Oklahoma Pro Chapter Radio Categories, Newscast – Third Place, Susan Shannon.

2006: Society of Professional Journalists - Oklahoma Pro Chapter Radio Categories, Radio Feature – Third Place, Susan Shannon.

2004: Public Radio News Directors Inc. – Division C, Interview– First Place, Susan Shannon, “Interview with Hank Stuever.”

We at KGOU wish the very best for Susan in retirement, and thank her for her many years of service.  Bravo – Susan!
