Keeping KGOU's Service Uninterruptable

This doesn't look like much now, but these pieces of equipment will become a powerful uninterruptable power supply that will keep KGOU's main studios operating during power outages for up to four hours.

This is from the Manager’s Desk.

KGOU is making an upgrade to our facilities on the University of Oklahoma campus. This upgrade is one that you will never hear, but it will ensure that you can more regularly hear KGOU.

The first operating rule of any broadcaster is to never, ever have any extended silence on the air.

So, to continue broadcast and digital service during common and uncommon emergencies we are making KGOU more disaster-proof.

This is our next step. We are installing a heavy duty uninterruptable power supply to operate the critical broadcast equipment at our studios. This UPS should last up to four hours should we lose electricity. Now, on the OU campus, the loss of electricity does not happen very often, and when it does, it usually is under an hour.

But even that hour’s interruption is important in delivering news and information, especially if the electrical interruption is during a larger emergency where KGOU's broadcast and internet service can be of value to people.

This new back-up power will ensure disruptions to the broadcast service are minimal, and KGOU's service to you continues, especially when you need it the most.

Thanks.
