Oklahoma Musicians Reach For Fame In NPR's Tiny Desk Contest

NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest

More than 6,000 musical acts from across the country submitted entries, and now the wait is almost over. Thursday on Morning Edition NPR Music's Bob Boilen will announce the 2016 Tiny Desk Contestwinner.

This is the second year for the contest, which awards a prize of a coveted concert at Boilen's "tiny desk" at the NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as a tour sponsored by Lagunitas Brewing Company. Through the years that desk has seen many established performers as well as up-and-comers, including Adele, Wilco, Chris Stapleton, T-Pain, Death Cab for Cutie and many more.

Dozens of bands and solo performers from Oklahoma entered this year's contest, hoping for discovery and a chance at a recording contract. Their songs reflect and sometimes meld a wide variety of musical genres and styles, and possibly even defy classification. They call Norman, Oklahoma City and environs home, and we even have one submission from Guymon. Here are some of our favorite local submissions:
