Police Respond To A Hostage Situation At the Nextep Building In Norman

Facebook

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it's assisting in a standoff at a workplace in Norman.

Lt. Betsy Randolph says troopers are assisting Norman police after a person with a gun held at least one person hostage inside of an office building Monday. Aerial footage from television news stations showed dozens of people leaving the Nextep building with their arms in the air and running across a parking lot to safety.

Norman police did not return calls for comment but said on Twitter that a "large number" of people were evacuated safely from the building.

A nearby school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Nextep has reported on the company Facebook page that all of their employees are safe and have been evacuated from the building and accounted for.
