Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has disqualified District Attorney Janice Steidley from representing Rogers County in legal matters, citing a conflict of interest in her defamation lawsuits against organizers of a failed petition drive questioning her conduct in office.
The Claremore Daily Progress reports that Pruitt sent Steidley a letter this week informing her that his office would provide no-cost legal counsel to the county through Dec. 31, when her term expires.
Steidley was defeated in the Republican primary election by Claremore City Attorney Matt Ballard.
In May, Steidley was cleared by a multi-county grand jury of accusations brought by local law enforcement officials alleging wrongdoing, including witness tampering.
