Officials in a central Oklahoma town say it's OK for a business to start oil drilling in the area.
The Norman Transcript reports the Slaughterville Town Council voted 3 to 1 at a special meeting Tuesday to approve a permit for Xanadu Exploration to drill a well. The company's president Larry Sweet was present at the meeting to answer questions.
Town administrator Marsha Blair says Slaughterville has ordinances to keep wells away from homes and to monitor the cleanliness of well sites.
She says the company has been cooperative in agreeing to move the tank battery and access road to the well site to another place in Slaughterville. The original, proposed location had also met the ordinances for distance-from-dwelling requirements.
