The Oklahoma Department of Corrections currently has 99 offenders categorized as fugitives, but most of those are from work-release programs, halfway houses or GPS monitoring.
Several Oklahoma fugitives, however, have escaped from medium- or maximum-security facilities, and some have been living on the run for decades.
Those include:
Kenneth Cook, now 85, convicted of first-degree manslaughter, who escaped from the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite on Nov. 24, 1986;
Teddy Ellis, 50, convicted of first-degree murder, who escaped from Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy on May 24, 1986;
J.C. Gable, 77, convicted of first-degree rape, who escaped from Lexington Correctional Center on March 30, 1976;
Jose Garcia, 71, convicted of unlawful delivery of marijuana and burglary, who escaped from the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite on Oct. 18, 1973;
Rodney Lewis, 64, convicted of car theft, who escaped from Dick Conner Correctional Center on June 7, 1993; and
Jorge Niebla-Lopez, 28, convicted of drug trafficking, who escaped from James Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena on April 25, 2008.
