The State Board of Education unveiled and approved the membership of the standard’s creation steering committee Thursday despite State Superintendent Janet Barresi’s attempt to amend the motion.
The steering committee will oversee the standards creation process approved earlier this summer after the repeal of Common Core standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts.
Named members include: Chancellor for Higher Education Glen Johnson; Secretary of Commerce Larry Parman; Interim Director of Career and Technology Education Marcie Mack; Mautra Jones, a parent of a Kindergarten student at John Rex Charter Elementary School based in Oklahoma City; Superintendent of Pryor Public Schools Don Raleigh; 2013 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Elaine Hutchison, to serve in the capacity of a mathematics teacher; and 2014 Teacher of the Year finalist Barbara Bayless, a teacher from James Griffith Intermediate in Choctaw-Nicoma Public Schools to serve the role of an English Language Arts teacher.
